The new NSPS pay system is bad for most federal blue collar workers. I believe that it will take away job security by changing the pay by seniority system to a pay by performance awards program. The new rules will weaken federal employee and union rights. The NSPS will also force shipyard mechanics to travel on overseas assignments with little or no notice. Because this system is management-based, the only way I can get a performance raise would be for me to start working lot of overtime or travel for months at a time. This new system is not family friendly, and it will force lots of older mechanics out of federal service.
