March 1, 2005 DoD NSPS Comments , DoD NSPS Comments: I write to express my concerns about changes to work rules in the Department of Defense (DoD). The proposed regulations, known as the National Security Personnel System (NSPS), were printed in the Federal Register on February 14, 2005. This message will be sent to both DoD and my representatives in Congress. I have worked for DoD for years. I am angry that these proposals seem to treat the employees who help defend our country as the enemy. Most DoD employees work hard and are committed. I believe that mistreating the employees will hurt the agency?s mission. I am very upset by NSPS. This system will change the way workers are paid, evaluated, promoted, fired, scheduled, and treated. These rules would create a system in which federal managers are influenced by favoritism rather than serving the civil concerns of the American people. I am commenting on 9901.910 Which is the management right to deploy civilian workers and treat them as they do the military. I no longer wear the uniform of the Air Force because I have a responsibility to care for my invalid mother in law. While she can get out of the wheel chair and in to bed by herself she cannot get in or out of a vehicle or drive. My wife and I care for her. I work days and my wife works evenings and week ends. In working the schedules like this we can provide the care she needs. To provide a stable environment I got out of the Air Force and started working civil service. If I am forced to deploy I will not be able to support my family and pay bills of which health care is no small part. I know this first hand. When this NSPS goes in to effect I will probably not vote for the congressman and senators who helped put this system in place and not protect me from its implementation. Sincerely,
