March 14, 2005 DoD NSPS Comments , DoD NSPS Comments: The main thing I want to comment about on the proposed changes has to do with people working together in an office, department, or a project. I have always tried to be a team player, and help people get their work done as well as try to get my own done. Helping them has often slowed me down, but management realizes they need the help & does not hold it against me . We are talking about a whole unit here. If these changes are made, are employees who have years of technical experience going to feel pressured to get all their work done & not help others? Is it going to be every man for himself & the end of teamwork? That will cause more stress & more workplace problems. Is everyone going to be wondering if they will be the first with a RIF? As an experienced workforce retires one at a time, we are already seeing the loss of technical skills. We must safeguard those who can train & help others from wondering whether they can afford to continue helping others at the risk of their own job. I hope those who make the decisions consider these issues, so they can have the best output from employees working in an environment that is as least stressful as possible. It's already hard enough with staff cuts & new programs, technology, & new resonsibility just about all the time. Sincerely,
