March 13, 2005 DoD NSPS Comments , DoD NSPS Comments: I worked in the federal medical system for 25 years. I have noticed that it is hard to attract and keep nurses. Nurses pay outside DOD is higher. With NSPS, defense nurses will leave the system. Most defense nurses are members of military families. They know the problems of military families like frequent deployments, separation, and uncertain future. Thus, they are more caring. Contract nurses have no loyalty to the DOD system. Their main motive is to get the most pay with the least amount of work. The care our soldiers will recieve will be far inferior. Contract nurses will cost the federal system more money because of more legal suits. Hourly cost of contract nurses is higher and will continue to increase with the shortage of nurses. NSPS is detrimental to the federal system. Sincerely,
