March 14, 2005 DoD NSPS Comments , DoD NSPS Comments: I write to express my concerns about changes to work rules in the Department of Defense (DoD). I have worked for DoD for 15 years. I am very worried that the proposals seem to be one sided and shows a "I don't give a shit about the employees" attitude. It breaks my heart to see the US Govt turn on the people who make it possible to protect this great country. I do believe that the system should be modified, BUT in a way that protects the employee and the Govt. DCMA works their behinds off supporting the warrior but we do have problems with upper management on every level. This system will encourage disfunctional behavior from certain supervisiors, and many of us will pay the price. Favoritism is already a problem and this will only encourage it. People will end up getting sick due to stress. If you are interested in reducing the number of employees, why don't you just have a RIF instead? I do not see this change as being positive, as it will beat down many who are honest hard workers. Bottom line is that we will not be able to stand up for ourselves when justice is not being served! We talk a big talk about teaming, but many don't have a clue what it really means. Many are worried about their workload, so they hoard it, give out bad information, and will protect it as if it is their baby. There is no guarantee that even the best workers will receive a pay raise or that the pay offered will be fair or competitive. This system will create a situation in which workers are in conflict with one another and afraid to speak out about harassment, violations of the law, and workplace safety problems. Civilian Deployment The possibility of being assigned to a different location (war zone) really upsets me. I am a Civilian employee, not a Military employee. The volunteer system works well. Please dig deep in your heart to find the right answers to these changes. America is already in a mental mess, don't encourage it.I Sincerely,
