March 14, 2005 DoD NSPS Comments , DoD NSPS Comments: I write to express my concerns about changes to work rules in the Department of Defense (DoD). The proposed regulations, known as the National Security Personnel System (NSPS), were printed in the Federal Register on February 14, 2005. This message will be sent to both DoD and my representatives in Congress. Federal employees could be assigned anywhere in the world, even into a war zone, with little or no notice. I am proud to serve my country but I am also responsible for caring for my family and my personal obligations at home. We signed up for a civilian job. We did not enlist in the military. Today?s volunteer system works well. I am a disabled vet who proudly served my country. And I along with other Fort Drum employees don't appreciater the heavy handed tactics of the DOD leadership. We have been under strength for years and got the job done. We just got a third brigade and are getting the job done. Now your telling us that if we really produce we just might keep our job and get a raise to boot. Past climate surveys have shown the supervisors dont equate work with bonuses. Do you think a 5000 plus page document is going to make a difference. NSPS is a workers worst nightmare. Lets keep a system we understand. And if we need to make changes do so. We need to support our troops in this time of need and do not need to be distracted by NSPS. Sincerely, John Sweeney 315-788-3453
