March 15, 2005 DoD NSPS Comments , DoD NSPS Comments: To whom it may concern, My name is . I am President of Local 2150 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Our IBEW local has over 4,400 members across Wisconsin. We have members who work in very dangerous utiity occupations and who have to meet strict security clearances at power plants such as at the Point Beach Nuclear Power Plant. Our members take pride in their work and they take pride as Americans for the contributions they make to keep the electric and natural gas systems operating 24/7. We recently were informed of new DHS rules that will impact on fellow Americans who have worked for years for the DHS as members of the AFGE. Very simply, any attack on the ability of AFGE members to exercise their collective bargaining rights as American workers is an afront on all American workers. Is the DHS infering that unionized workers are not patriotic enough to be trusted to represent themselves at the bargaining table. Has the DHS forgotten that unionized workers helped win WWII and every war since then! That includes the Cold War with the Soviets and the current War on Terrorism. This attack on the integrity of American workers is appalling. I ask you on behalf of the workers in the IBEW that the the Department of Homeland Security stop attacking the workers that are protecting the homeland. Sincerely,
