March 16, 2005 DoD NSPS Comments , DoD NSPS Comments: Under NSPS civilians can be deployed to alternate locations due to the missions needs. These locations include war zones (such as the desert for example). Now that sounds just a little too much like the military to me. I've served in the military and I took that oath to do as told and do what was needed for my country..and I have done a tour in the sands of Kuwait. Now as a civilian it is my turn to take care of home while the military of today are tasked to those desert lands and hostiles areas...that is what they are trained to do. There are many civilians not like myself, that have not had any time in the military, so they would not know how to go about taking such a trip..and many of us have families and spouses that have no ideal on how the military works, and would not be able to function in our absence (bills, child discipline, or having to find proper day care). There are also a lot of single parents as well, and again not being used to a military lifestyle, who would be available to take care of kids and a household for several months at a moments notice? There is a reason why we have military and a reason why we have civilians employees. The civilians are here to keep the homestead mission going and aid in support for the military families of the men and women who are on Tdy's and long tours. If civilians are going to be tasked as military...will we recieve the housing allowances, have use of the family support centers and law offices, and be able to shop at the main exchanges and commisaries on base facitlies as well? Plus will civilians be trained on the M-16 and other firearms as well, since we may be deployed to war zone areas? Honestly if a civilian is tasked to go to such a place and simply can not go because of family issues, will their job be in jeopardy? Or will other civilians be tasked until one excepts the assignment? Sincerely,
