I am writing as both a dedicated federal employee and a dedicated single father of two wonderful girls ages 14 and 11. It concerns me greatly that the new NSPS which is proposed will view civilian employees, like myself, as a deployable asset. Being that I am a single father, I can not always easily travel without causing great strife to my children. If I don't travel (under the proposed plan) this can hurt my annual reviews. With the job market today, the great expense of having children, as well as the possiblity of reduced raises or none at all, how are families such as mine suppose to live under the new NSPS? I only recently started working for the DOD and there is no other work around where I can make just enough to support my girls. At a first step WG-8 salary, there's not much left even after cutting corners and doing without many things. Our one bright spot is the hope of step increases, cost of living increases and the possiblity of a promotion that might allow me to help my girls achieve their dream of attending college. Please do not allow Mr. Rumsfeld to hurt the working class further and destroy the dreams of the next generation. I thank you, and I'm sure that my daughter's Heather and Meaghan would certainly thank you.
