Several statements are made throughout the new personnel system addressing longevity and this really frightens me. RIF rules that state that emphasis on performance over seniority in retention. Performance ratings leave alot of room for non-accountability by supervision, they can really show favoritism and be able to say anything about their employees and use this as a basis for termination. Who is going to protect the employees that are eligible to retire in a few years? I feel like this new system is designed to remove personnel that are close to retirement and strip them of all of the years of hard work. Can something be done to keep our seniority in RIF processes? If a supervisor does not like a person, then they can at will ship them to another organization or fire them. Training is another issue, who is going to make sure that supervision provides us with the training on this new system? This entire system is very frightening as I have seen private industry approach their personnel in this matter. On day you have a job and the next day you are close to retirement and are being stripped of your seniority. My main concerns are protecting my seniority, stopping favoritism of supervision who will use this new system to promote and provide pay raises to family and friends, make management more accountable, and how management can act on anything without anyone be able to question them. Your help with this would be appreciated.
