Pay Bands and Performance Management programs were, are, and always will be based more on a "Good Old Boy" system than actual performance. Previous attempts at these type of performance incentives such as the Stock System in 2003, have proven to incite rather than provide incentive. There have been many attempts to tie performance to pay, including PARS, Special Act/Incentive, PAF etc. and all have failed miserably. The current "Bust A Rock" program rewards company performance vice individual performance and the success is shared equally by all. Though not perfect, It comes much closer to fairness than any individual based performance incentive ever has or will. The proposed changes in pay incentives will foster bitterness and resentment throughout the workplace, as was the case in 2003. Only those paid the highest incentive will be in favor...even the 2nd place guy will be angry that number #1 got more than # 2. If your thinking that those left out will get onboard, think again. They wont change. Ive known them throughout my 35 year career. We need the system that rewards the company for performance with all shares divided equally. Any other program will fail in its first year. Learn from history...
