With the implementation of your revised pay system, I going start referring to my supervisor as my 'owner'. And own me he is. All you are doing is legallizing the buddy system. You know deep in your heart of hearts the only people that will do well in a system such as the one you are proposing are the friends of the supervisors. I do well in my job. I do extremely well. I take pride in my work. I spend an inordinate amount of unpaid and uncompensated overtime in the office. I see my supervisor come in every day and I watch him go home most days. I work a great many of weekend days and sometimes holidays (I was right here at my desk on Thanksgiving 2004). However, my supervisors have never really accepted me as one of their "favored persons", for whom promotion is the highly visible, easy to forecast, inevitable end. Your system will geometrically increase office politics and the subsequent uncertainty, fears, rumors, and distrust that already exists because of those politics. Promotions already have the cloud of suspicion hanging over them because of the buddy system. Now you taken that cloud and placed it squarely over the pay method as well. I understand that there are people hiding just under radar with less than quality work. But did it cross anyones' mind that perhaps the current method protects good people from poor management as well as hiding poor workers? I do not feel comfortable providing my name. I work for people now that rely almost totally on the buddy system for ratings and promotions, and that would take the opportunity I've provided with my comments here to make my life that much more difficult. Have a good day.
