This is a not going to work. I have had 5 supervisors in the past 3 years. I am a registered nurse, I have to rotate shifts. Mainly evenings and nights, because we have to give the contract nurses the "good shifts because otherwise they won't work here." I have 19 years of federal service, I know how the system is supposed to work. Yeah, currently it doesn't because all the military cares about is getting promoted and making more money. This new proposal is going to decrease morale, loose many experienced personell who are just going to quit. We don't make as much as RN's on the outside do. Why not just take the money and run. Pay for Performance? My supervisors never see me because they work monday-friday, weekends and holidays off. Hell, I got more certifications than my boss does! And they are going to rate my performance when they can't get their contracts to work overtime, be on call and do all the little extra things that need to be done. When our soldiers deployed for Iraq, I ordered all the supplies for a 22 bed ICU, not a contract nurse. I have to do random drug tests, not the contract nurses. I took an oath, not the contracts. I have to rotate shifts, not the contracts. And you think this is going to make the system better? When was your last drug test? Sure, applying for a job is a pain in the ass, but it is that way elsewhere, but now they have on the spot hiring capabilities. We worked that out. I don't see an improvement here. All I see is let us see how we can screw the loyal employee more. Make them be the back door army/airforce/marine/navy guy. You folks are gonna loose alot of good and loyal employees if this goes thru as planned. And yeah, you are right. "It is all about the money" anymore. So much is wasted in contracts that are about worthless. They say they are ICU nurses, we have to train them! Now we are getting butter bar liutenants and we have to train them too. How are we supposed to preserve the fighting strength with no experienced nurses? It is your military, you are gonna do what you want anyway. That is my opinion for what it is worth. But knowing the army, not too damn much. Have wonderful life.
