Pay Raises: As I understand this new system my pay raise will no longer come in Jan as a GS employee. My pay raise if I get one will be decided by my supervisor. If I am good performer most likely I will get something. If I were a poor performer I might not get a dime. How can people continue to live with no pay raise as the cost of living continues to sky rocket? Where is there justice in this system? An across the board pay raise as we have always received in Jan with a cost of living is fair to all. Those who perform above and beyond used to get step increases, bonuses etc. at the end of an appraisal system. Those who didn't perform got nothing. At least with that system we try to make ends meet and those who perform better get more than those who don't. There are always those who abuse the system but you probably find more good than bad in the old system. There is no reason for these executive levels to get these gigantic pay raises. What about the little person? When they retire they will never have to work another day in their lives. Those smaller people, the GS and WG people will retire and still need additional income to live with no pay raises coming anymore once we retire. What is the sense in this system? It is garbage. When I retire I will have bills to pay, I will need food, health insurance, etc and the way Social Security is going I may not even get that so the least you can do is give me a yearly pay raise when I retire to hopefully make ends meet and I will still have to go out and work another job to live comfortably. I am a middle class person with the normal bills. When you retire you want to be able to live comfortably and not worry where every penny is coming from. I don't see that happening with this new plan. It would be nice for someone to talk to the little person and see what he/she thinks. Our union is against this plan and now that I have the facts I too find it totally unacceptable. I only wish I could have retired a few years ago. Now I am doomed to my last years in civil service wondering how and if I can make ends meet and how much longer I will have to work to make sure I can live a decent life on the outside. Thanks to Congress and all those invovled I have nothing to look forward to except worry.
