I'm deeply saddened and concerned about how NSPS has been implemented. DOD federal employees deserve to be treated with respect and dignity for their service to our Nation and with NSPS I see this is not the case. The privileges, rights, and freedoms we’ve come to respect and enjoy, as DOD federal employees, will be eroded away with this new system. It will achieve the opposite outcome of what’s been stated. Abuse will be more prevalent under the new system than the old. The foundations with which we accomplish our work is based on “Teamwork”, and with NSPS, teamwork will be a thing of the past. Each of us will need to sacrifice the other in order to protect himself from a loss of opportunity and security. People in my organization are afraid of the future and the uncertainties of NSPS. Is this the way federal employees should be treated? Afraid for their jobs, their families, their retirement and their lives – I hope to God the concerns expressed by so many of my co-workers do not become true. The reason you’re not seeing a great deal of response from DOD employees is that they are afraid to voice their concerns. Is this the future for America – for people to be afraid to participate in their government? If it is, then the objective by those who attacked us on September 11 was a success, as they’ve disrupted our way of life and the freedoms we cherish. As a patriot, and Navy veteran, I am fearful for the future of my children and the prospect of federal employment. Our Country needs people willing to make sacrifices for the good our Country, but at what price? There is a trade-off with every job, but if those working in federal employment are expected to give up more or to take on significantly more risks than others in the workforce, how will you recruit them? You won’t. The existing system isn’t perfect, no system is, but I doubt NSPS will be the silver bullet to fix the minor problems we encounter with the existing system. Please reconsider your actions and take into account the most important aspect – respect and dignity for people.
