I am new to the government. One thing that did attract me to government work is the known. I know that I will get my grade step, and I know what my salary will be. Pay is not as high in government work, as in private sector, but at least you know what you will be making. If I'm going to be treated like I am working in private sector, why not just do that. This new system is going to attract fewer recent grads to government work.
