With the GS grades going away under NSPS, the need remains for a system to identify the grade level of civilian employees in comparison to their military counterparts. This is most important for employees working in a military environment, who supervise military personnel and interface with/relate to military officers. For example, it's important to recognize that a GS-15 is equivalent to a Colonel for assignment of functional responsibilities, attendance at senior service schools, etc. Standardizing this equivalency in the NSPS would be beneficial to all the Services.
