I will soon have worked 35 years for the government. Prior to that I worked at a bank and a factory. I assure you that I would pick civil service over the other two any day. Many people are upset with the changes on the horizon. There are certain things that I might not like and I feel may be susceptible to abuse. However, I have witnessed many employees over the years that were a true burden to the system. Ones that felt the government owed them a job without them contributing their labor. I have had many supervisors that would have liked to have taken action only to find the system to punish or fire a person to be so cumbersome that they just threw their hands in the air and ignored the situation. I have to say that I know one union steward, in particular, that is the worst abuser of the system. I say, Hooray, to pay for performance. Of course, I believe in working for your paycheck so that may cloud my perspective.
