Please recall the worst supervisor you have ever had. How would you have fared with performance based pay increases under this supervisor? How many of us toil in obscure jobs with little chance of becoming an exceptional performer? If the pay pool only has a given amount of money with which to reward performance, then how much do you think your supervisor will give you knowing that it will decrease his or her potential for a reward? What if your rating period is at the end of the fiscal year? How much money will be left for rewards? What if the pay pool knows you? Good or bad? A pay increase is suitable for each 3 years of service.
