Hi, I am a GS-12 Mechanical Engineer and I work on developing, installing and ammunition demil equipment. We will be installing a large facility in South Korea in the next year. This is called an autoclave facility. We melt out TNT from 105mm rounds, 8 inch rounds etc for reuse. This will require us to be on site for 4 to 5 weeks at a time. We work long hours. I supervise a crew of 6-8 people installing the equipment. We will make 4 trips in a 6 to 9 month period. Currently we claim overtime or comp time for the hours we work. I understand the new pay system will not pay for overtime I work and I think it stinks. I took a 16% pay cut when I come to work here and now your asking me to believe my boss will compensate me for the extra hours I work. Ya right. Last year I received a 1.5% bonus. Our highest award was 2%. This amounts to hardly anything. The only way I could get similar pay to private industry was to work overtime hours. Some years I'm gone 6 month's of the year. I am a step 9 so I only have one more step to go. How can you state I will be better off with the new pay system. I only see my self getting hosed. You will have hard time getting people to do this. I like my job but it has been an added bonus being able to be compensated for the time I put in. I think I will be looking for a new job, but then what do you care. My wife is already tired of me being gone as much as I am. How are you going to acount for hard work besides giving a measly 2% bonus. WOW, I'm excited to work for the Defense Dept.
