Sirs: I have read over the information concerning NSPS and, to be perfectly honest, it scares me. As a federal employee, I enjoy certain protections and freedoms under the current system. With the implementation of NSPS, those protections will be gone. In a perfect world, if NSPS were implemented and used as intended, no honest hard working federal worker would ever have to be concerned about his or her job security. But we all know this is far from a perfect world. With polititcs and friendships playing such a large role in the workplace, those that depend on solely on their hard work to help them shine will be at a loss. If a supervisor dislikes an employee for any reason, NSPS will give that supervisor the power to release that employee, with the employee having no real recourse, no protection. WIth senority gone, those that have been working for years to build their reputation and retirement are no longer guaranteed a job in the workplace should a supervisor decide they are no longer needed. Those in power have long wanted to strip the current personnel system of employee protections - and it looks as though it is going to happen. You may go ahead and discount the few observations I shared with you above. But, I believe we both know, this will be a system where management has virtually unlimited power, and the employee is at the mercy of managements decisions. There are very few advantages to being a federal employee, you are now removing the one advantage we used to have - but then again, your management; why should you care.
