Pay Banding: Since pay will be secret, how will pay discrimination based on gender, race, or ethnic background be exposed? How will an employee (who suspects discrimination) prove it? Will statistics on pay by gender, race, and ethnic background be available to the public? Sometimes an employee is ethically required to give a supervisor unpleasant information. Since the supervisor determines both pay and continued employment, what mechanism will be in place to prevent the supervisor from firing or demoting the messenger of bad news? Since studies have shown that managers tend to stick together, what mechanism will control a supervisor who bullies or sexually harasses an employee?
