I tend to agree that this system will only create more favoritism. It won't be fair for the hard working employee, who does put forth extra effort to their work, but has a supervisor who does not write awards or a supervisor who just doesn't like certain employees. Leaving raises up to management is all too subjective. You're talking about human beings, all are not fair, all do not like everyone, all are not good managers/supervisors, and not all get adequate support in time or learning how to motivate or commend their staff for a job well done. Requiring overtime whenever management deems without proper notice not only causes the family problems, creates health problems for some, and effects 2nd employement that many employees might need to survive, because overtime benefits are so unpredictable.
