A satisfied workforce is much more likely to perform well than a workforce that is driven by fear and doubt. Employee buy-in is a vital element of a satisfied workforce. Whether or not previous opportunities were provided for union/employee input, the great concern that currently exists indicates the need for some serious, open talks between DoD and employees. Think about truly forming a flexible, competent workforce, rather than about politics, deadlines, and personal attacks. Although civilians working for DoD are not members of the military, they want to contribute to the defense and support of our country. In the process, they expect to be treated as valuable individuals. DoD will not be effective managing their civilian workforce if they treat them as they do their military employees. Civilians do not need shouts, insults, and commands to work effectively and efficiently. They need respect, sensible policy, reasonable order, training, support, streamlined processes, and appreciation. As a member of the civilian workforce, I beg our union leaders, DoD employers, and lawmakers to sit down, not at a table of contention, but at a table of concern for the best interests of our country and its defense. Please work TOGETHER to create the best personnel system possible.
