Thoughts on the proposed National Security Personnel System. ~ My comment regarding the notion some people have that of thinking the Army may impel civilian personnel to go somewhere they don’t want to. The deployment of civilian recourses anywhere, undermines the very nature of civilian employment, and smacks of conscription. Before you know it, we’ll be sending press gangs through the streets to recruit personnel on an involuntary basis. If we want to talk about the violation of workers rights, we should take a hard look at this and consider basic human rights. No one should ever be put in a position where they must choose between home and country. I served in the military, and knew that at I could be called upon at anytime, and if I wanted to live my life with that ever hanging over my head, I’d have stayed in. I chose to go into the civilian sector to live my life as I saw fit. As far as I’m concerned, it’s not about pay structure, or anything else; it’s about basic fundamental rights.
