Being a former military dependent with children, I have had a first hand opportunity to see how base schools provide not just an education, but support to dependents. During the Gulf Storm, teachers, administrators, and peers of my children were supportive and understanding while their father was overseas. Knowing that these teachers were trained to teach and encourage through stressful times helped my children and me during a difficult time. If base schools were to close, the country would not be supporting their troops! It is much easier for a soldier to be abroad when he knows his family is receiving support on the home front. How can we ask everyday citizens to support the troops if the government isn't willing to do the same?
