I can see the need for an employer to reward good employees and to release entrenched employees who develop bad habits, but I am concerned that union protections have been weakened.... Most important to me, union protections are weakened under NSPS. I feel secure enough under the current system to not become involved in the union (although with a prior employer I was a union steward). With the possibilities for middle and upper management abuse under NSPS, I probably will become more active in the union.... Protections from management are weakened. Even under the present system I have experienced enough wild middle management (down to a refusal (with foul language) to provide relief for 4-5 hours to use the latrine until the union became interested) and apathetic upper management to become very concerned about the changes.... Availability of funds is also a concern. Even though I work full time I still qualify for many low income programs (ie WIC, EIC, etc). Under the present system I have noticed the preference of some upper management to spend money on themselves (like renovating the main office but claiming that there isn't enough funding to get basic equipment). And these guys are going to decide who gets raises?... I already work holidays like Easter day and Christmas day without holiday pay. What is next? Removal of night differential, Sunday differential, and overtime?... I left the military because I have young kids I want to see grow up and my wife was tired of deployments. Now the union is claiming that civilian employees can be deployed under NSPS.... So in conclusion I believe that NSPS needs some more work, especially in safeguards for employees.
