Upon review of the new pay system I just hope that I have a supervisor in my job that I don't have personality issues with. It has been my experience working for the US Army that there are a lot of issues between Military and Civillian employees. The military are often times our supervisors and come and go in these positions every 2-3 years. They don't really know what we do in our civillian jobs, nor do I think they really care most of the time. It has been made known to me, on more than 1 occasion, that civillians should not be working for the US Army, "these should be jobs only for retired military or spouses of military". How much of a pay increase do you think you would get working for someone like this, regardless of how hard you work to prove yourself. Civilian employess should have to answer to civilian supervisors with a pay system like this. Also, when hiring comes into play, now we have a system where you have to qualify to a list to get an interview. Are we now going to a system where if you live next door to a person who you know wants a job they automatically get it because they don't have to make the list like all civilians do? It is already hard enough to get a job working for the DoD if you don't have veterean's preference or spousal preference. Do you think in the outside world there wouldn't be a law suit filed if they gave us civilian preference and discriminated against veterans and spouses of military. Sure there would be! I truely hope this new pay system works for all employees of the DoD, veterans, spousal perference, and the civilians that are lucky enough to get a permanet job here.
