Under normal circumstances I would not consider making a comment; however, I feel this implementation is taking us back to the dark ages. We will be under the “good ole boy” system giving unlimited power to the supervisor and encouraging favoritism. The current system, while not perfect, allows individuals to excel and to grow within a team environment. Our country currently has a work force that is willing to go the distance. The number of volunteers for every emergency situation proves this fact. And how are these employees repaid for their loyalty? By congressional action that looks to the short term and not the long haul. These employees are under threat of being contracted out or now being placed in a work environment that rivals the 50’s. While I am a government employee, I am also a taxpayer. As a taxpayer I want my money spent to supply a competent stable work force. I want to be able to depend on these people as we have in the past to give their best and more. How can we expect to get the best if we put out the message that unless you are willing to be a good ole boy you can not succeed in civil service? We need to be progressive not regressive. Although at this point I feel I am wasting my time because the die has been cast and this is just a formality. Looking at this proposal, it is just very difficult to realize that we have people, making decisions for our country, which are so short sighted. Saving our tax dollars is always at the top of our list but we also need to make sure decisions today will not have an adverse effect on our future. .
