I am a new employee of the Federal civilian workforce, having just finished a 25 year military career. Since I am a new employee, and not cognizant of all the agency's rules and benefits, I am not qualified to address specifics. However, I am qualified to address the stewards of these changes in a general manner. The Armed Forces are manned primarily by young members, as the tasking requires youth and strength, but the Federal Civilian workforce is manned by a wide spectrum of society. Many Federal workers are past their prime. After reading our office Union Representatives' summary of the changes envisioned, I get the perspective that the changes favor the young, strong, and best. I am no longer a member if this group, though I still desire to make a meaningful contribution to America. Military service is an unstable foundation for young households trying to raise families, as frequent sacrifices are required. Please do not re-create that environment for the civilian workforce. For my part, I enjoy maintaining contact with the military through my new job supplying them with the supplies they need, though I am glad to be absent from the rigours of the same, and I promise to remain productive until retirement. For your part, selfish as it may seem, please ensure that my senior working years are stable and prosperous, that I may provide security to a household that just endured a military career. Please do not chart our security, hopes, and dreams into difficult waters, as I've always told my family, "wait until I retire from the military, then things will get better." Please don't make me into a liar. Thank you and God Bless.
