Did you know? Some of America's Government employees are paid so little that we cannot provide proper health and dental care for ourselves and our families? Never mind a real vacation for my kids or something that might be considered fun. I for one, am a GS-7 in the state of MA. I have been a single mother struggling to raise 3 children. For the first 2 years of my separation from my husband, I had to put groceries on a credit card (He was in jail due to violation of my restraining order, so there was no child support). It will take me years to get that paid off. I have no luxuries in my home that most American families have. No cable TV, No computer. Several times this past winter alone, I have not been able to purchase fuel for heat and hot water in my home. My 10 year old daughter has had her molars coming in to an already overcrowded mouth and it is causing her pain. There is nothing I can do about it. What's going to happen when her wisdom teeth come in? What about my teeth? We used to have pretty decent medial care even though no real dental care. Now our choices are limited, and are at best a better-than-nothing medical coverage. I had to have surgery last spring for hyperparathyroidism- a growth on my parathyroid that had to be removed. My out of pocket expenses are well over $1400. and I have no way of paying it. The bill's come constanly with threats of collections agencies- some are already there. For several years, my doctor has been wanting me to have surgery to remove my uterus due to large fibroids, which causes me severly heavy bleeding, before I have my distended bladder rehung. (A prior problem due do my last pregancy.) I desparately need to have these things taken care of, but how can I? After last years surgery, I'm scared to death what my costs will be for this one. How can anyone even think of reducing our pay when it is already low? With our medical insurance getting worse, more of our health care is paid out of pocket. The greatest country in the world does not take care of it's employees who are dedicated to this country, and to the protection of it's soldiers, sailors, and marines. Why doesn't the US Government protect us? Please do not take any more from us. Please stop the NSPS regulation and give your dedicated workers what they deserve for their loyalty to this great country. Protect our pay. Protect us by not allowing management to decide who gets raises, or mandating our hours. Protect our collective barganing agreements. I am not asking for luxuries- just for me and my family to afford to live simply and healthy. Thank you for your consideration.
