“NSPS is a mission-driven, performance based system that motivates, recognizes, and rewards excellence, which will result in an overall improvement to mission effectiveness, and enhanced national security. This is critical in the global war on terrorism.” This sounds like something a major corporation would write in an effort to get rid of older, less productive employees and promote and attract high performers. This will be a great thing for the young, high performers; as long as business is good. Just remember, our business is war. What’s going to happen when there’s no war going on and nothing to do but sit around and fly training missions? How many “performance based raises” will we get then? I'm not advocating retaining employees that don't perform, I just think that the people making these decisions and changing the rules need to be reminded of something. There have been times in the past when there wasn't alot of work to do. But, since Sep 11, 2001 we' ve more than earned our pay. As an Air Reserve Technician thats why we get paid when there's not much to do; so that we'll be ready at a moments notice when the time comes. We should be careful not to undermine our ability to perform by trying to streamline everything to get maximum "performance". After all, the only way to find maximum performance is to push something until it breaks.
