1. I am concerned with the standardization of Position Descriptions. We will lose the ability to distinguish technical specialties, reducing the effectivenss of matching a resume to the position; we also run the risk of reduced job satisfaction as people are hired into positions that are different from what they expected. 2. Performance evaluations need to have more than a "score"; verbal descriptions of acceptable, highly successful or excellent have a meaning to the individual and to others who receive copies of the evaluation; scores relative to a target score lose that significance. I worked in MDA using the "Acq Demo" system and in two years we never did achieve a definition if the target score established the level for simply satisfactory or other; nor did we ever find a way to convey the performance achieved to organizations provided copies of the appraisals as part of an application.
