Sirs, The proposed changes will do nothing EXCEPT re-enstate the Spoils System of Government employment. While there are many who would applaud this (it provides a nice way to get little Snookums a high-paying job WITHOUT having to worry that they will mismanage the family business into the ground - review old news articles about Reagan appointees for some great examples) I for one find it unacceptable. The sad fact is that virtually all Government work lacks a "bottom line" so you cannot use the private sector yardstick of "you make the company more money, we pay you more". Instead raises and promotions will be based on your politics, how closely they align with those of your boss.Do you really want several hundred thousand jobs being given out based on fidelity to a perticuliar political agenda? If this is NOT the intent of the proposed change, then why is there NO protection for a good, honest worker who might be wrongfully punished? ANSWER: the administration does not want to worry about right or wrong, only loyalty.
