PERFORMANCE AND BEHAVIOR ACCOUNTABILITY: The statements made within this area really disturb me. The so-called "good" employees, within my organization, are categorized as those that seldom have anything to say. They sit in meetings and just maintain an unexpressionable face and nod their heads to anything that is said. They perform any assignment without speaking up about possible changes that could be implemented to improve the task. If a person questions how a task is performed, they become labeled as a "troublemaker". Also, the employees that represent the union, are usually labeled as troublemakers. These types of biases and prejudices are very subjective and will be used negatively toward an employee who is outspoken. All of this would be okay if the workforce were just speechless robots whose only mission is to make their creation master happy. People have their own individualities and personalities. By actually specifying an acceptable behavior, someone is playing God, subjecting what they feel is a "good" or "bad" behavior. For instance as a scenario, I conduct myself in a professional manner, but I also am outspoken and have ideas about policies and procedures. I attempt to work together with all that I come in contact with, but am not accepted by all. If I encounter someone that is showing me disrespect, I avoid that person or persons and just concentrate on my work and stop trying to work together. My supervisor could classify me as not being a team player, when all I'm trying to do is just avoid a problem that my supervisor should be addressing. That same supervisor could classify the person creating the bad atmosphere as a forceful leader and gets things done with no concern that the person lacks consideration for others feelings or that all the person wants to do is make themselves look good at the expense of hurting a fellow coworker. I've also noticed some individuals are good manipulators and can represent one personality but actually be another. Reconsider so much emphasis in this area or offer extensive training to hopefully minimize the incorrect sterotyping and classification of different individuals.
