I thought neo-conservatives were running the Defense Department, not neo-Nazis or crypto fascists. The proposed system would not only return us to the spoils system, but would, over time, ensure that only line-toeing robots work in a highly critical agency. While the current Civil Service System is far from perfect, it should be improved, not done away with. It's bad enough that the current administration's merchants of fear have brought us abominations like the Patriot Act, and are trying harder than ever to restrict the flow of information. What's next, a new military service wearing black uniforms and/or leather trench coats? I served in the Army in Vietnam, and I have a total of 36 years of government service. I consider myself patriotic, but you are trying to change the country I believe in; those changes, over time, do not seem to me to be for the better.
