NJ Career Path and Broadband levels for GS-644 series. In the Federal Newsletter in 1997 the Medical Technologist GS-644 series was in the Technical Professional category. In the current proposed career path and banding levels we have been downgraded formthe NH series to the NJ series. Medical technologists require a BS degree and then have to pass registry examinations and speciality certifications to practice at the GS-09 level. The GS-644 series requires individuals to make many professional decisions on a daily basis that are critical to the well-being and treatment plan of patients and support the entire medical team in that position. How did we go from being a Professional society to support? I am a GS-13 with a Master's Degree, two speciality certifications and over 200 peer-reviewed publications, including abstracts, manuscripts, book chapters and patents. I don't like being grouped in with a forestry technician.
