Having served my country as a career Marine, including a combat tour in the first gulf War as well as many deployments away from my family I know something about good leadership. During this time of war I fully comprehend the need for measures to safeguard our way of life. What I do not understand is why DOD plans on changing the procedures currently in place for civilian teachers needing to have a grievance or administrative action reviewed by an impartial and fair third party. From what I see the procedures currently in place, enacted by Congress, seem more than fair to all parties. The proposed changes seem to stack the deck in favor of a select few, thereby giving them undue power to make sweeping changes under the guise of national security. I think the focus needs to be on what we can do to support those serving in uniform and their families rather than looking for ways to gain the upper hand or make budget cuts. A house divided will fall. Let's close ranks and give the children we teach the best education possible without worrying over issues already addressed by Congress. Semper Fidelis, F. Stokes
