I read an article in the Belleville News-Democrat, Belleville, Il, on March 14, 2005, that has me concerned for federal civilian employees. I am retired under the civil service system with 35 years of government service. If one departmernt can make these changes, will the retired employee's benefits be the next to take a hit? I know the present system is not perfect, but what system is? With the proposed changes, I believe you are setting up a "buddy buddy" system which I think would be detrimental to some good employees. In my 35 years I saw some good results from negotiations with upper management which protected the rights of the employees. Especially, when the government agencies were forced to comply with the rules of the Fair Labor Standards Act. This was especially true concerning work schedules and overtime. The United States is at war and trying to establish democracy in foreign countries. So why try to take away the rights and protection of the DOD employees?
