I am writing this letter to ask for some reasoned thought to be requested of you in opposition to the ideas for establishment of the National Security Personnel System (NSPS) for the Department of Defense. I am a former 10th grade U.S. History teacher. One day a rather intelligent student asked why U.S. History was a required subject for High School graduation. The class then studied for a few days and concluded that our civilization has gotten to the advanced state it is currently enjoying, through one generation passing down to the next the discoveries of the past, thus history. Our General Schedule Pay system was the culmination of trials and errors and was adopted to correct and eliminate the nepotism and other unfair cronyism that existed to the disgrace of the Federal Government. To revert back to a system that would open the possibility of such behavior again coming into existence is not intelligent thinking. You, as our reasoned wisdom here, must use your abilities to advance our country and civilization, and not allow the pearls of the past to be revisited and further bring ridicule to the hard working employees who offer their service to the Nation as true citizens.
