A DCAA employee has expressed concern from an operations security (OPSEC) perspective, i.e., that NSPS is posting too much information at www.cpms.osd.mil/nsps. Both DoD employees and the general public can visit the NSPS website for information, although the average person would not readily have addresses of DoD employees. There appears to be no benefit to the Government's interests by publishing the manpower report by city/state on the world-wide web. SECDEF message of 14 January 2003, subject: Web Site OPSEC Discrepancies, required that information be reviewed for data sensitivity prior to web posting and protected accordingly. SECDEF stated that sensitive unclassified information can be found on public web sites and that our enemies access DoD websites. SECDEF required that website owners verify that there is a valid mission need to disseminate the information to be posted. We are under an elevated security alert. What purpose does it serve to identify the number of DoD personnel by city/state?
