To the victor belong the spoils. That is where the NSPS system is leading us.. back to a system where political patronage and abuse of power are not just common, but intended features of labor management. The NSPS system relies on the trust of those in management positions to make smart and honest decisions and to be fair in those decisions. It does nothing to address objectivity in employee evaluations and the impact those evaluations will have. What NSPS will do is dramatically increase the power and influence of the executive branch of government. It will do this by influence of dollars, policies, rules and regulations, and specific decisions made regarding human resources. NSPS will cause a shift in the balance of power in this country. The civil service system is representative one. The power changes encompassed in NSPS will eventually effect the rights of all Americans. The right decision about NSPS should be based on the bounds we would like future Presidential Administrations to work within. While the current administration has pursued its agenda and preferences the real threat of this NSPS system lies with how future leaders will use it. In my opinion it goes too far in limiting employee recourse and in empowering management. My experience with management is that all people are fallible and some are downright venomous. This new system allows the snakes among us to not just get by, but to thrive. This NSPS system sets the stage for unprecedented unfair practices, abuse of power, nepotism and the like. It is my hope that our leaders rethink the NSPS system with emphasis on how they want our future leaders to foster a democratic system that serves as an example to all of America and that respects the rights of workers.
