The NSPS system if enacted will only benefit those in charge. Those of us who have enjoyed the benefits that have been granted to us will be placed at the mercy of others who are most likely already enjoying a higher career field with more perks. The perks, if that is what you want to call them, currently entitled to GS grade employees are in jeopardy of being lost forever. Such things as step increases, COLA, etc. may be switched to a subjective assessment system, going back to the good old boy way of doing business where it is who you know, not what you know. AS a Gov’t employee for 16 years, I take pride in supporting the soldiers in the field but it was never my intention to “be” a soldier. Under the new system, the dreaded, “D” word (deployment) has arisen over and over. If I wanted to be a soldier and travel the world, I would have enlisted when I was much younger. Additionally, sending employees to places they have no desire to go to (for whatever reason, mostly personal, family oriented reasons), will not foster dedication, but rather resentment. What then will happen to the lives of our dear soldiers who are depending upon us to do our best to ensure their best welfare…and what about their families who have entrusted US ALL with protecting THEIR loved ones who have made a conscious and heroic decision to put their lives on the line to protect all the rights we currently possess. While job security has become less and less secure, it appears under this plan that you could be gone based on whims. This is a bad deal being dealt and will be felt by all exponentially.
