I recently read an article in our local newspaper that has me concerned for the rights, seniority and job protections which I feel federal civil service employees--and all employees anywhere--are entitled to have. As the wife of a retired civil service employee, I am concerned that these changes are the first of more to come that will eventually effect the benefits of retired employees. I am concerned that the change from the General Schedule pay system to a performance based system will create a "buddy" system that will discriminate against some deserving employees. I agree some employees get automatic increases that probably don't deserve them, but I believe the "buddy" system will make this situation worse. I believe it is a step in the wrong direction to make it easier to fire and discipline employees at the same time you are diminishing the role of the employee's unions. Our country seems to be on a mission to ensure rights and privileges in other countries, so why decrease them for our own people. Seems to be another example of squeezing the middle class. Please reconsider these drastic changes!
