The headlines should read….The DoD returns to the 1800’s and brings back “The Good Old Boys” system with NSPS. In theory, rewarding employees based on performance is an excellent idea! In reality, this is almost NEVER going to occur. Pay increases that will be at the sole discretion of a supervisor….WOW what an opportunity for corruption of power and dangerously low morale that could result in increased violence in the work place! Government employees have nothing to fear unless (1) you don’t belong to the “YES MAN” club, (2) you think that your opinion is valuable and should be given consideration, (3) you do not belong to the “The Good Old Boys Club” (3) you work for someone who is not above using this as leverage for keeping employees “in-line”, etc., etc., etc. Bottom line, I work for an unethical, revenge seeking, male chauvinistic pig and he is a strong opponent of the Employee Recognition System. It would be safe to draw the conclusion that I am not in favor of NSPS!
