Sec. 9901.333 Local Market Supplements The local economy supports a salary of at least $2000 more for an experienced Medical Records Technician classified as a Coder III. This is in accordance with national medical records coders who hold Coder III positions. Historically, as an experienced and certified records coder at DOD WBAMC, no recognition has been given to those of us who have gone the extra mile in obtaining certification. In many cases money was out of pocket. Our job descriptions don't require certification and positions have always gone to someone favored. There needs to be some real standard that experienced and certified Medical Records Technicians do indeed start off their salary at the established level of our civilian counterparts who have this expertise and that we as coders of long standing get the immediate salary upgrade. There needs to be an accounting by those in the position of granting a salary increase that guarantees a salary increase to those with coding certification and experience. Currently, new employees without appropriate training are being paid the same as the rest of us.
