The NSPS is the first big step toward the privatization of civil service. This has long been the dream of the current administration. The hope is that the convoluted rules and system of compensation in the new system will drive out so many employees that the Pentagon will then be able to say that they cannot function without the help of private contractors. The U.S. Government is NOT a private company and cannot function like one. It is common knowledge that any time a function of the government is contracted out, costs soar and the taxpayers are left to foot the bill. In addition to the cost of implementing the NSPS, the taxpayers will also have to pay for the hundreds and hundreds of lawsuits that will result from employees suing their employer - the federal government - for breach of contract, age discrimination, sex discrimination, etc.
