It is not fair to change the rules regarding "deployability" of employees after they have devoted decades of their careers to service in this organization. We made a commitment knowing that many of us would choose to do what we were asked to do only because we know we can not be forced. Changing the rules at this point is demoralizing and will not improve the morale of the civilian (by choice) workforce. This type of top-down, insensitive directive will only decrease support for the active military. Over many years, I have accepted so many of the negative aspects of working for the federal government. Of the reasons I have to stay and devote my life to executing this organization's missions, "equal, publicized pay for set work duties and levels of performance" is at the top of the list. Changing this organization to be more like private industry, but without the flexibility and other advantages of private industry, will only encourage more people to pass over the Federal government recruiting table in favor of private industry. With this system in place, how will working for the Federal government be more attractive than working for a consulting firm?
