Hiring Flexibilities: One of the precepts of the new NSPS will be additional flexibility in hiring to attract high quality applicants through simplification of the process and increase in compensation. In considering the implementation of any new system it can be instructive to consider how the new system will affect individual situations. In my case I'm an Air Reserve Technician at Westover ARB facing a Mandatory Separation Date at age 55. There's a straight civil service position open in the Finance area, but since I'm classified as only a pilot I apparently don't meet the basic eligibility requirements either in education or experience. If a less stringent stance was taken by the Air Force Personnel Center on giving credit for my education and experience then at least I could compete for the position. As it stands now, that would be impossible even though I'm considered exceptable by the Wing Commander, Vice Wing Commander and the Operations Group Commander. If management were given an opportunity for greater input into the process I believe I'd be competitive. Maybe the new system will provide for that.
